The Importance of Core Muscles
The importance of developing a strong core has many elements. A strong core is the power behind many sports like golfing, tennis, biking, running, swimming, baseball, football, kayaking, rowing, and the list goes on. Developing a strong core not only makes practicing the sport more effective, it may be more enjoyable as well.
Second, having a strong core improves balance, which lowers the risk of falling. It may also prevent other injuries, such as muscle strain or spasms in the lower back. Developed core muscles help to stabilize your spine, creating a firm base of support for movement of all kinds, including everyday movements like reaching up to a shelf or picking something up off the floor. With a strong core, the legs are more likely to function in an optimal position, relieving unnecessary stress on the hips & knees. Common back & leg aches & pains due to improper movement patterns fueled by a weak core can prevent you from your regular exercise routine, which is important for your overall health.
Lastly, a strong core contributes to proper posture. Understanding which muscles straighten & support your spine, which muscles stabilize it, are all part of a good core conditioning program.
